‘Galaxies’ is a deservedly epic name for Jenn Grant’s grand new single, taken from her recently announced album, Paradise, listed for release on March 3rd 2017 via Star House Collective. From the start of ‘Galaxies’, Grant’s uniquely delivered voice drifts through the gospel keys, rich horn swells and the stratospheric spaces in between. Vocals are something that the Canadian songwriter has honed in on through this creative process, as she explains: “I don’t feel like I really heard my own voice until recently. The delivery of songs has become so important to me. And for some of these new songs, I decided to approach singing more like a whisper, to try and get a feel for it’s softness. I wanted to feel the power in that.” It’s a power we can hear reverberated through this song, where her gentle, sometimes kitsch, tone portrays metaphorical moments of deep thinking. A stand out image has to be “I pictured people standing at the edge of the earth, hands outstretched, asking, ‘What is bigger than us, than any of this?’” This star-gazing single is Grant’s way to reach new audiences with her revised style, and it’s one we’re fully embracing. - HT
